FLY FISHING'S UPDATES
By Fran Betters

Fly Fishing Update for September 15-30th

This past couple of weeks have seen great hatches of Isonychia on the river and lots of nice trout being caught. Our guides have been busy all week. There are also a number of stoneflies still around and good hatches of blue winged olives as well as the large orange pumpkin caddis that come off this time of the year. The Ausable Caddis are still taking lots of fish in the pocket and fast water. For those visiting , don't forget to join us at our FREE barbecue and fly fishing clinic on Saturday Sept. 23. We will be running some closeouts on many trade in rods we have taken in this summer along with specials on other rods. The water level is low and the temperature of the stream still remains in the low to mid 60s -some great fishing in the pockets, pools and riffles. Fast water sections of the stream are still producing large fish. This season, there seems to be an unusually large number of brook trout in the stream. One of our clients took a nice 16 inch brookie a few evenings ago and I'm happy to report the fish was returned so another happy customer can have that same excitement Also, earmark Oct 14 as the date of our annual pig roast. We roast two large pigs and have a great time with all our wonderful customers. Lots of good food and some great specials where everything in the shop is on a 20% discount sale. A great time to enjoy a nice party and take advantage of some great buys for the Christmas season ahead. There is still four weeks of great fishing to be enjoyed so come on up and make some new finny friends on the Ausable.

NOTE: There have been a few salmon coming into the lower sections of the Ausable, the Saranac and the Bouquet but there are lots of fish stacking up around the mouths of the rivers waiting for the rain to bring the rivers up. It looks like we should have some excellent runs of salmon this fall. All we need now is some rain and a few colder nights to bring the fish in. Call for up to the minute information on the salmon runs, Our guides will be doing salmon drift trip as well as wading guide trips for the salmon. E-mail (awulff@whiteface.net) or call (518-946-2605) for information on trips and bookings.
