Licensed Guide Services
The ADIRONDACK SPORT SHOP operates a professional guide service that offers guided trips on the famous Ausable River, the Saranac River, the Bouquet and a number of smaller streams throughout the Adirondacks. The guide service is under the direction of Fran Betters, who has taught fly fishing on Adirondack streams for more than fifty years. He is also the author of 12 books, creator of the Ausable Wulff, the Haystack series of flies, the Usuals and Mini Muddlers.

ABOUT OUR GUIDE SERVICE
In addition to wading and float trips, we also offer special back country trips to many of the ponds and lakes for trout, bass, northern pike and salmon. We have four professional guides who are also certified fly casting instructors. We also have additional certified fly casting instructors, both male and female, who are always available to give you a free casting lesson if needed. This service is available at the Adirondack Sport Shop every day. All you have to do is ask for a free casting lesson and someone experienced will be happy to assist you.
In addition to regular day time guide service, we do night trip hunting for that trophy fish you've always wanted to catch. If your goal is to fish some of the smaller streams for native brook trout, we can oblige you there also.

Our full day trips are just that, a complete full day that consists of about ten to twelve hours, NOT the standard six or eight hours. Times of the trips vary according to weather and time of the year but most full day trips begin early in the morning and last til noon. Then a short break is taken for lunch and you're fishing again until dark - sometimes later. Our half day trips usually last about six hours and sometimes longer.
All the guides are instructors, experienced in fishing and tying flies. They know the hatches and will instruct you on the proper selection of flies. This saves lots of time for the client and insures a full enjoyable and productive day of fishing,
